Yeyo Spirits
In 2009, a 25-year-old American named Jon Bullinger walked away from his day job and into the red volcanic soil of Jalisco's highlands with a simple mission: craft tequila that honors tradition while pushing boundaries. What emerged from that bold gamble was Yeyo Tequila, a brand that treats high-proof expressions not as novelty but as necessity.
History & Heritage
Bullinger founded Yeyo in partnership with distillery owner Sergio Vivanco and Master Distiller Sergio Cruz in Arandas, Jalisco, a region where the mineral-rich volcanic earth produces some of Mexico's finest Blue Weber agave. The name "Yéyo" serves as an affectionate nod to Sergio, reflecting the personal connections that drive this operation. Their single-estate agave grows without chemicals or pesticides, a commitment that begins in the field and carries through to the glass.
The Tequila
Yeyo produces 100% Blue Weber agave tequila using methods that blend the traditional with the unconventional. Agave roasts slowly in brick ovens for 72 hours, then ferments with champagne yeast, occasionally accompanied by classical music to maintain consistency. Double distillation in copper pot stills follows, with careful temperature control preserving the agave's natural character. The distillery specializes in high-proof expressions designed to capture the full spectrum of flavors typically muted in standard bottlings, including their Agave Vice Reposado aged in ex-Sauternes casks and various limited releases like Luna Vol. 2.
Why It Matters
Yeyo represents the new generation of tequila makers who understand that proof points matter. Their commitment to high-proof bottlings preserves the natural depth and complexity that makes tequila worth studying, not just sipping. For those who appreciate spirits at their most expressive, Yeyo offers tequila that refuses to compromise.
