Owned, as of July 2026, by drinks giant Diageo, Dufftown produces a single malt built from 100% malted barley, water drawn from the distillery's own Jock's Well, and a patient, unhurried approach to both fermentation and distillation.

History & Heritage

The distillery was founded in 1895 by Mackenzie & Co., a blending firm that recognized Speyside's water and barley as raw material worth controlling directly rather than sourcing on the open market. Ownership changed hands in 1933, when Arthur Bell & Sons, the Perth blending house best known for its own blended Scotch, acquired the site. Bell's was in turn absorbed into the Distillers Company Limited, the sprawling conglomerate that consolidated much of the Scotch whisky industry through the twentieth century. In 1986, Guinness acquired DCL in one of the era's most consequential and controversial corporate takeovers in British business history. The Whiskey

Dufftown's production process leans on scale and patience.
